About Aglow

In 1967, four women, in Seattle Washington, sat praying around their kitchen table. They wanted to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and be empowered to influence more women for God's Kingdom. It didn’t take long! Their first public meeting attracted more than 100 women and very quickly the word spread to other States. By 1974 momentum had grown and Aglow went to Canada and then into New Zealand, beginning in Blenheim. Aglow quickly became an International Ministry known as a "network of caring women". Today, Aglow is in 172 Nations, gathering in more than 17 million people annually. Aglow truly is a multi denominational, global group of people, women and men, working together with local church and networking with other ministries to see God's Kingdom advance on the earth. We pray "Every Nation Touched, Every Heart Changed" by the transforming love and power of Jesus Christ.

In New Zealand our core strength is found in our monthly meetings and prayer groups, where local leadership teams work alongside invited speakers to share the Gospel, bringing sound teaching and practical application from the Word of God. We have 39 groups meeting around the Nation, from the top of the North to the bottom of the South. Our groups include women (and sometimes men) from every age group; we have teen groups, young mums groups, groups who minister to prisoners and other golden saints who are enjoying the journey of faith together. We are not a Church, but remain a Ministry bringing in people from all walks of life".

Why Aglow? to grow in our faith in Jesus Christ and through Him to make a difference! We value people, we encourage one another, and delight to see the women and men who come into our meetings discovering their true identity in Christ. Aglow is “a safe place” where members are equipped and strengthened in their faith journey, to then assist in bringing restoration to others. As we have been blessed, so we bless.‍

Isn’t it great to feel connected and a sense of belonging to an organisation that is making a difference? That is Aglow! It is a dynamic, Holy Spirit led group of people, from all walks of life and denominational backgrounds, and yet with one real desire.

It has often been said, “stretch and grow in Aglow”. By becoming members, we automatically become connected to a worldwide network, where up to date teaching, news, personal prayer ministry and various ministry opportunities are readily available.Aglow holds bi-annual National conferences, annual Leadership Summits, plus regular training days and retreats. As well as the monthly meetings and prayer groups that are so vital. Meetings are filled with praise, worship, teaching and encouragement.

There is the added opportunity to attend International Conferences where thousands of Aglow members from the 172 Nations represented in the Ministry come together in worship and to hear from world renowned speakers, prophets and apostles. One person has said “attending an International Conference is the closest thing to Heaven on earth. Seeing the thousands of people gathered, from so many different tribes and tongues. It is a foretaste of that great day when we will all gather before His Throne in worship”.

Local Aglow members have the opportunity to be involved in various Ministries – including prayer, hospitality, music, drama, dance, school holiday children’s ministry, decor, Bible Studies and publications
Members are invited to partake in quality Leadership Training

Times photo Wayne Martin FORMER kindergarten teacher Laraine Bennett, conscious of the need to provide environments conducive to mums and their littlies, has found a new home for a women’s group that will accommodate a crèche.

Loraine is president of East Auckland Aglow, part of an international multi-denominational network that gathers monthly for meetings and prayer groups. Mrs Bennett says the group provides encouragement, support and friendship for women of all denominations. While the movement was started in New Zealand 40 years ago, the East Auckland group is just two-and-a-half years old and until now its members have met at Te Tuhi in Pakuranga. But the contemplative nature of the arts and boisterous worship do not always mix. And littlies running about the room can be a distraction for young mums looking to nurture their spiritual and their emotional development. Mrs Bennett decided a crèche was needed.

Enter Wayne Peat, a C3 Church senior pastor, who was guest speaker at an Aglow meeting. On hearing of Aglow’s dilemma he offered the facilities at his Highland Park church, already well geared up for mums and their little ones. “The music is all here – contemporary and meaningful worship facilities which allow us to be more upmarket.” Mrs Bennett joined Aglow in 1978, by which time her children were older. But, she says, as a former kindergarten teacher, she retains an intense interest in young mums and music. “I like my contact with the older people as well,” she says. “It’s important for mums with young children to be able to inter-relate with the older ones and hear their stories. “We encourage women of all ages to join us. But we can’t have the little ones running around the room, hence the need to have a crèche so that the mothers can relax.” Pastor Peat says a sense of family is generated, “a cross-generational activity where people can give support to each other”. “I felt we could provide a safe environment for women engaged in their spiritual and emotional development. “This organisation [Aglow] helps them on the journey and some good life transformational stuff takes place.” Mrs Bennett says women of all ages are invited to share “our worship, stories, tears and laughter, and meet other women from our surrounding suburbs”.

Our vision statement is both bold and broad. It is a statement that encompasses everything we do and leaves expansion for our future. Vision is not about direction. It is about the height we wish to achieve.

What We Believe

We believe in the one and only triune God. We acknowledge there is one true God consisting of three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified, died, was buried, and resurrected. He ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, and is true God and true man
We believe the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is our rule of faith and practice
We believe that all are born sinners, the Holy Spirit convicts of sin; the Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for sin by shedding His precious blood on the cross as the atonement for sin; those who refuse to accept His sacrifice for their sin are eternally lost; and those who repent of their sin and personally accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior receive the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance, that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are valid and operative today, and that the fruit of the Holy Spirit should be increasingly evident in a Christian’s life
We believe that the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ provides healing for our spirit, soul, and body
We believe that we should obey Jesus’ command to preach the gospel to all the world
We believe that the members of the Body of Christ are the Church, and that they should regularly fellowship with one another in a local church setting
We believe in and look for the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ
